grandmas say the darndest things

I attempted to Skype with the fam at my dad's request yesterday morning my time. I was told to be ready at 9.30am. I was online and ready. Somehow, though, my dad left me a voicemail but it never rang on my end. And then he went back downstairs. So I sat there (checking my email) for 30 minutes waiting. Finally I sent a chat note that I was running downstairs for cereal & tea. Of course they called the 6 minutes I was away from my frickin computer!

But with my brother manning the controls we were able to get it so they could see me, and I could see me, and audio was working both ways but my parent's camera wasn't working. Which was a bummer because my niece Sophia was donning her giraffe halloween costume! She's so frickin adorable - my dad uploaded pics within 24 hours...I'll have to post the link. Sophs literally will put a smile on anyone's face..guaranteed.

Anywho, besides my brother and my nieces being over, both grandmas (great-g-mas to Sophs) were also over...they were carving pumpkins and having dinner. I was able to very briefly speak with both grandmas...and Grandma Anne said almost from the beginning, wow, honey, you look really tired. To which I laughed and said oh, Grandma, I think it's my webcam and also that I'm probably looking at my screen instead of into the camera.

But I think when you're old you can't just drop something...if something is puzzling you, you really want to talk it out. So she repeated it, and then I heard her say to Mike or my Dad, or does she always look like that?

Grandma!

And then she said, well, you know, you call me every week but I don't see you very often.

It was heart warming and ego-crushing all at the same time. I probably do look tired...end of semester stress & a healthy social life and all...and I read something about how after you're 30 your skin isn't as plump and bags under the eyes become a more common issue for ladies.

But I'm stickin with my original theory ;)

  1. Ha!

I was home visiting my folks in September and was telling my mom that I'm sad that I no longer get carded consistently... and she told me that it was probably because of the bags under my eyes.

    Thanks alot mom.

So, I don't think you've got bags... but if you do, you're in good company!

  2. I will tell you what puts age on your 30 something face real quick, a newborn sleep schedule. We should have all had kids when we were 20 and everything bounces back into place like magic. Except it's not magic, it's called youth and it's on permanent vacation.
